The emphasis course for Communications Technology at Stephen Leacock focuses on Television, Video and Movie Production. Dubbed LTV, this course offers students a unique opportunity to develop high-end skills that can lead to careers in film, broadcasting, and related communications industries.
Often students get to connect with the community, including post-secondary institutions like Seneca Polytechnic. Check out the Walkie Talkies: Breaking Barriers to Journalism video below.
LTV Weekly
The students enrolled in the Communications Technology: TV, Video & Movie Production course get the chance to become creators of video content for their school community. They are trained on planning storyboards, writing scripts, working with state-of-the-art video equipment and editing footage in industry-standard programs like Adobe Premiere.
LTV Weekly is the name of the student-run YouTube series which captures student life and puts it on the screen. From interviews, to event recaps, and from academics to games, if it’s newsworthy, LTV Weekly will cover it. If you haven’t subscribed, make sure that you do and tune in to our weekly(ish) episodes!
Student Exemplars
Here are some examples of video projects from LTV students.
Classic TV Show Intro Recreation
In this playlist, students were tasked with choosing a classic television show and recreating the opening title sequence. Analysing the original video shots, creating a storyboard, as well as listing the necessary props and wardrobe were part of the pre-production phase. Students then filmed all their shots in and around Studio 6 and various areas of SLCI to complete their production process. Using their growing knowledge of Adobe Premiere, the small teams were then able to edit their intro sequence to match to the original as best as possible, complete with a unique title for their parodied show.
Film-in-a-Day Workshop
Students participated in a workshop in Studio 6 where they got the chance to write and shoot a film in a day.
Scene Reenactments
In this project, students had to find a memorable scene from a Hollywood film and reenact it, shot for shot.
“Pulp Fiction”
“Silence of the Lambs”
Video Clones
For this project, students had to play multiple characters in a single video.
“Obeying Me”
“The Corollary”
News Broadcasts
Our Studio here at Leacock is the prime setting to shoot a newscast with a group of four. Students were also trained to research, film and edit their own news packages.
Chase Sequences
One of the building blocks for learning about the importance of shot types and cuts, the chase sequence is a fun project for students in this program.
“The Biscuit Thief”
